If you have ever been on this wonderful cruise then you don't need me to tell you just how much fun it is. However if you have always wanted to go but haven't been able too, well then you definitley need to try your hardest too go. Trust me, this is a life changing event. This will be my 3rd year attending and I have made a promise to myself to do this every year.

There are many of us out there that are going through difficult times. Whether its with money, relationships or career/business. So I know its hard to come up with the money. Trust me I know. I got hit with all three at the same time. But honestly knowing that I will be going on this trip keeps me sane and motivated. You learn so much on this cruise. Its not just techniques and suppplies that you get to learn about but you learn new things about yourself. You will find a new you. I have met so many wonderful women on this cruise that have touched my life.

Frida's Fiestas

A couple of weeks ago I posted on my Facebook how excited I was about a book I purchased from Borders called "Frida's Fiestas". It's written by Diego Rivera's daughter, Guadalupe Rivera and Marie-Pierre Colle. Its a cookbook with all of Frida's favorite recipes that she loved to cook for her beloved Diego and her family and friends. Along with the recipes are also beautiful and juicy stories that Diego's daughter recounts for us.
I am so excited about this book. As I looked through each page I pondered on how wonderful it would be to make each recipe in this book and blog about it, just like in the movie, "Julie and Julia". So I said to myself, "Why not?" So ta-daaa! My new project is born.
So this weekend I will begin my first attempt to cook one of these wonderful recipes from "Frida's Fiestas" cookbook. I have chosen my first recipe and here it is:

MACARONI WITH SPINACH SAUCE

I will be making this recipe this weekend and will take photos and blog about what happened, whether it was a success or not, on Monday. I'm excited about this so stay tuned!

Charming Little Cemetery

After we settled in to our new little casita in beautiful Uptown Whittier, I was able to focus on all the great things this city had to offer. Many shops, wonderful shops, the Family Fair and Farmers Market on Wednesdays! Its great, but never would I of thought to find this charming little Cemetery, The Olive Grove Cemetery. Its actually in the city of Santa fe Springs and the way that I found it was taking a shortcut from my home to my moms to drop off my son. Now I have driven many times on this same street for years on occasions however I never saw this little cemetery, that is until recently. My son and I were so amazed that we had to pull over and take pictures and give some respect to the dearly departed.

Now what makes this cemetery so special, you may ask. Well it is that it is approximately 900 SF and there are about 150 German Baptists resting here. All born in the mid to late 1800's and it is smack right in between 2 industrial buildings!

It looks abandoned but when we got out of the car to get a closer look there were fresh flowers placed on some of the tombs. The property hasn't been maintained though because sources say that the owner of the property moved to Modesto back 1995. Since then, Olive Grove Cemetery hasn't been maintained. So everytime Chris and I drive by, we give a little wave of love. I wish I had a lawn mower to mow the lawn and water it too.

6th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise 2012

Ok my peeps, here is the information for the 6th Annual Crafty Chica Cruise. This is a funtastic 8 day fun-filled cruise! Now I know the 8 days sounds really scary to some of you. But in reality its only 6 days. The first and last days are really really short. I know many of you have told me their concerns about being aboard a cruise liner for such a long time, but I have to tell you, it really isnt bad.

This will be my 3rd year on The Crafty Chica Cruise. It wouldn't be if it was hard to be on it for a 8 day cruise. There is soooo much to do during the sea days and soooo much to do when you dock at the ports. We actually run out of time and wish we had more. Thats no joke! So come on, jump out of your comfort zone and dive into freedom! There is sooo much motivation, creativity, passion, culture, artistic juices and so much more on this cruise. You will learn sooooo much on this cruise that it will open those artistic blockages you may have!

Creative things I find on the 101 freeway

Driving home on the 101 freeway everyday for about 2 hours, well, your bound to see very interesting things. Here's one of them.

It really caught my eye when I saw it and I really enjoyed it. It brought a smile and a "Kool!" to my mouth. So thank you Mr. Yo <3 LA for making my 2 hour drive home alot less stressful!

So proud of my boy! My son knows that I've been wanting these shoes called, TOMS, for a while now. They are super dooper comfortable and when you have a bad back, you definintely want comfortable shoes that will make it a little easier for you. So for Mother's Day my wonderful son, Chris, gave me my very first pair! I was a happy Mommy! Not to mention that he cooked me a steak dinner! He wouldn't let my hubby near the grill unless it was to check on the potatoes. Yes, I am very blessed to have such a great kid!

Has this ever happened to you? Your so into your work, your piece is coming out just the way you want it too. You put the finishing touches and your soooo proud that it came out just right. You then decide to drown it in resin to preserve your creation. You hang it to dry. You wait a few hours and then you touch it and ITS NOT DRY!!! But wait, thats not the end of it. YOU DROP IT ON THE FLOOR!!!!! Ahhhhh. Its ruined! Ugh, oh well. Onto the next one!

I love love love this restaurant in Downtown L.A. I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant since I was introduced to it back in my High School years. There are two great things about this restaurant. The food and their service. Owned by the ex-mayor of Los Angeles, Richard Riordon, this place has maintained its originality.

Their coffee is great! Their bacon is great, ahhhh and their toast is to die for, not to mention their potatoes!

It was a great morning. Especially because I got to spend some quality time with the two most wonderful men in my life! My hubby, Noe, and my son, Chris. I highly recommend this place. Doesn't matter what time you go because they are open 24 hours!

I love the movie "Goonies". So when I saw this T-shirt at the store I bought it. However when I got home and tried it on, I was like, "Blah". So what can I do to spice it up and make it look a little more fashionable? Hmmm. This is what I did...

1) Cut the sleeves according to the length you want. There are no rules to this. Play with it!

2) Cut the neckline. You can cut a square, rounded, however you want it. Again remember there are no rules too this.

Make sure you stretch out the neckline. That will curve the material out and give it that 80's look.

3) Now the last thing you may want to do is slit the sleeves. That way it will give it more of a sexier look I think. And then your done! These aren't the greates pics of me but here you go. Here is the after look...

I am so thrilled that my son, Christopher, enjoysw Art as much as I do. I wanted to share this with you. Chris made these Fun Prayer Candles because he was inspired by his Mentor, Annette Armas from CJ's Angels in La Verne. I think they came out pretty well considering they were his first ones. I am so proud of him.

I missed a really really great class. I was so bummed that I was not able to make it to the Nicho Workshop at CJ's Angels. Lisa Ruiz from Terramaya was the instructor. Now if you have met Lisa, then you all know what a wonderful person she is. She is such a wonderful artist. Annette is the owner of CJ's Angels, and she is also a magnificent artist. These are two wonderful people that I am grateful that God crossed my paths with. I am privilaged to have them as my friends. I just wanted to share this wonderful picture of them. They had such a wonderful time at the workshop.

Day of the Dead Necklace

I really wanted to make a necklace that would represent me. Something that I could wear like on an every day basis or something that would go with everything. And this is what I came up with.

I had so much fun doing this. I used Black glass beads and incorporated Blue wood beads with Red glass beads. The skull I made from Polymer Clay and painted with Acrylic paint.

I think this will be a great conversational piece. If anyone is interested in learning how to make one, send me a convo.

I loved this project and I just had to make one for myself. I thought this would be a perfect gift to make as a graduation gift, a teenagers birthday gift or even for yourself. Hola Chicas,
Not sure if anyone is following my blog yet cause I really haven't spread the word out about my blog but its all good cause that is all going to change soon. But at for today I'm gonna blog about whats been going on since my last post. It has been over a month.
Well since my last post, I have started working part time at a really cool Arts and Craft store. I'm not sure if I can name them without their permission but really how many Arts and Craft chain stores are out there. Anyways. I love this job! Even though I am not used to working labor jobs and it is tough on my back at times, I love it! I love all the people there. Yes including all my bosses cause there are like 5 or 6 and all the supervisors and my fellow co-workers. They are all cool. I love working with most of the customers. Some of them tend to take advantage of you and mostly are unfortunately they are my nationality. That upsets me that they do not educate themselves given that they have many opportunities to do so. Don't get me wrong. I love my raza. And I am proud to be a Mexican-American, but there are some people out there that just love to get everything for free or feel that leaving a dirty diaper behind a whole bunch of boxes, is OK. And that's just plain nasty and Ghetto-Mex! But any hoo that's a whole other blog.
Anyways I'm also about 16 days late from my last menstrual period. I've been late before but I don't believe that I have been this late. Now as much as I would love to be pregnant again, we are not in the position to have another baby. But then again we really do want to have another baby. For the past 5 days I have had dreams that I am pregnant. My neighbor just had a baby and she is soooo cute. She looks like what Snow Whites baby would look like. I keep putting it in my head that I am not pregnant so that I will not be disappointed when I do get my period but its like life is playing a cruel joke on me making me feel and see things and feel things that make me believe that I am. I am just so worried that if it turns out that I am not, I will be so hurt and disappointed. If it turns out that I am not pregnant I am forever giving up on that wish of being able to bare another child. It's too hard. I will happy and forever grateful that I was able to have my wonderful and beautiful son, Christopher.

Oooh yes it's been a while since my last post. I am so sorry. Been so busy with the moving and cleaning and all that crap. But today I had some alone time where I was able to get some of my craft supplies out and this is what I created. Waaalaaa!
I used The Crafty Chicas Varnish on all 3 items. I love this stuff. It really leaves a nice shiny, glossy protective clear coating. And it looks great!

Ok I'm working on this really kool project I saw on the Crafty Chica Website. http://www.craftychica.com/ . There are so many neat and awesome projects on her site. This one is all about tricking out your jacket. You know, spicying up a jacket gone dull. Instead of throwing it away or selling it in a yardsale or donating it to a thrift shop, why not vamp up your jacket that you have already broken in.

I am trickin out my favorite denim jacket and when I am done with it, I'm gonna love it even more! Above are some pictures of my working progress. I can't wait till I am done with it. I will make sure to show you my masterpiece once its done.

I was reading one of my favorite blogs, The Crafty Chica, today. And she posted something that really upset me to find out. I was totally clueless as to what was happening to our children here on earth. It is horrible and we need to take a stand for our children. We need to be grateful for what we have. I am grateful to Kathy Cano Murillo for educating me on this and I vow to spread the word on this horrible event. This might be something great to show our own children as a wake up call. How great they have it, when it could be sooo much worse. I warn you. This is a tear jerker.

It's April... Spring is in the air

The Crafty Chica has an awesome workshop on a cruise line. And this went on March 15th thru the 19TH. I unfortunetely was not able to go, but you bet your buttons that I will go next year. Hi everyone... I went to The Pink Parlour Festival yesterday. It was this really kool, small but an awesome craft fair. I got to meet some wonderful artists there but nothing compared to meeting Terra Maya.

Ok those of you into Dia de los Muertos know who Terra Maya is. Terra Maya is very well known in the Mexican Folk Art/ Dia de los Muertos community. These lovely twins freaken RULE! I was soooo exited to meet them. I even took pictures with them. And I will gladly share one with you.

OPEN HOUSE BLUES

This weekend I had to put all my art supplies away into boxes. I am soooo bummed. We had an Open House this weekend because we can no longer afford to live in our wonderful home that we worked soooo hard to get. So in order to make the house look more presentable I had to put all my work and supplies away in Rubbermaid boxes. My art is the only thing that helps me destress and makes me happy. It helps me put my energy into something productive instead of having panic and anxiety attacks. So for a while I won't be able to work on my art and/or post anything on my website and blog. I just hope that the next place that we move too will be a little larger then our 800 square foot home. I think there even might be apartments bigger then our home. So maybe it might be a good thing. I should think about the fact that since we won't have a large mortgage to pay every month, we will be able to vacation finally. That's a good thing. And Lord knows that my poor hubby needs a vacation. Not just from work but from me too. He he, but he won't get a vacation from me. It's in our marriage vowels.

Tonight I had dinner with 2 of the most wonderful people in my life. I haven't seen them in years. And I mean years. It was soooo nice to catch up with them. It was like we never were apart. I love them and I promise them that I will not allow too much time to pass to see each other again. It was really nice to catch up and I love them to death. So this is to you gals...

I love you Vicki and Lisa. Now that we are all local, we have no excuse and we must make the effort to see each other, like you said, at least once a month. I had so much fun and you helped forget about all the crap that is going on around me. And for that I am truly grateful.

Public Speaking

I picked up the new issue of Somerset Studio Magazine March/April 2009. It's a great magazine if your into art and crafts. This issue is on the Art of Paper and Mixed Media. It's great issue. I came across a great article on PUBLIC SPEAKING by Quinn McDonald. I read the entire article and loved it that I am going to share it with you because I know that this will help many of us that might have a little difficulty speaking in public. So here it is all in a nutshell;

Many of us are afraid of public speaking because we don't want to look stupod, sound scared, or make fools of ourselves. There are 7 tips for improving our speaking skills.

1. Public Speaking doesn't come naturally. You have to practice.
Practicng lowers fears.

2. Don't rehearse in front of a mirror. Because it is not the view you have while speaking.
Practice by speaking out loud, in the car, in the shower, etc.

3. It's not about you.
Your main focus is your audience, not yourself. Use examples, metaphors, and references
appropriate for the age and experience of the aurdience.

4. Ask questions.

5. Speak briefly.
Start with the main point. A common mistake people make in meetings is to start with an explanation or background. The audience becomes impatient. the coughs, rattling of papers
and people shifting in their seats makes the speaker nervous. Nervous speakers sound unsure
and shaky. So here's a better way...
- Start with the main point
- Put in some context
- Frame your specific question

For example: (" I have question about a part of the budget report. *main point* On page of the report, second paragraph, says that we may be laying off people. *context* Wil this affect our department? * specific question*

6. Don't use the word "Why?".
This makes the people defensive. So instead of asking, " Why did you do that?" or " Why did
you think that was a good idea?", say " Could you tell me more about that? " or " How did
you come to that decision? ". This way you will get more information and less hostility.

7. Prepare for small and big speeches.
Practice all speeches at least 3 times

Speaking in public takes practice and patience, but it pays off quickly. You might even like speaking in public.
